Cameron Monger went 3-for-4 and doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the Hays (KS) Larks edged the Vienna (VA) Senators 6-4 to remain alive in the National Baseball Congress World Series.
Brandon Eckerle, Eric Roof and Billy Boockford each had two hits and an RBI for the Larks (4-1), who advanced to face fellow Jayhawk League member Liberal in Tuesday's late game with a semifinal berth on the line.
Hays scored four runs over the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead off Vienna starter Ryan Wooley, but the Senators (2-2) got it all back in the top of the seventh, cobbling two hits, two walks, a hit batter, an infield out and an error against starter Edwin Carl and reliever Steven Mazur. Mazur was the beneficiary of the eighth-inning rally as Monger's double broke the tie and Eckerle singled in an insurance run off losing pitcher AJ Kerby-Jones.
Vienna finished in a tie for ninth place.
