The Seattle (WA) Studs won their third game in the 74th annual National Baseball Congress World Series, overcoming a one-run deficit to win 6-2 over the Southern California Fire in a fourth-round game.
The Studs (3-0) got huge dividends from their use of small ball. Cade Thompson scored the tying run with a double and two sacrifices (the second a sac fly by Brett Wilcox), and the four-run rally in the eighth was set up by a walk, two more sacrifices and two wild pitches. Brandon Kuykendall's two-run single capped the rally, and gave reliever Taylor Thompson his second win along with a save.
The win moved Seattle into the fifth round, where the Studs will play Beatrice (NE) in Monday's 10 p.m. game.
Brett Bascue and Toby Davis knocked in the runs for the Fire (2-1), who will face the winner of the Havasu (AZ)-Plaza Tire (MO) elimination game on Tuesday.
