San Diego Stars Streak Past The Orange County Pioneers

« Back to News
The San Diego (CA) Stars won their opening game of the 75th NBC World Series by defeating the Orange County (CA) Pioneers by the score of 9-2.  The Stars were led by an outstanding performance for their starting pitcher Gabe Ward, who threw strong for 8 1/3 innings.  The Stars were led at the plate by Shain Stoner and Derek Ancrum, who each cranked out three hits in their four at bats.  Stoner was able to reach base four times throughout the course of the game and Ancrum slammed two tripples during the contest.  The Pioneers were able to collect ten hits during the game but were able to only plate two runs.  Eric Hempe led the charge for the Pioneers offense going 3 for 5 at the plate.  The Pioneers were able to work their starter Alex Curry for four innings before getting pulled in the 5th.  With the win the San Diego Stars will play Saturday against the Seattle (WA) Studs.  The Orange County Pioneers will next appear in the loser's bracket against the Team Elite (KS) Kings on Friday.  That will do it for Thursday's action at the NBC tournament and the end of the 1st round.  We will see you tomorrow for Baseball Round the Clock.  Writen by Kyle Fritzler.
