The Colorado Sox defeated the Wichita Sluggers 18U by a score of 8 to 5 in the opening round of the NBC World Series. The Sox out hit the Sluggers 16 to 6. Colorado jumped out to an early lead by scoring runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings. The Sluggers rallied in the bottom of the 5th, scoring 3 runs off of 2 hits. The Sox came and scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th, and then single runs in the 8th and 9th to give the Sox a final score of 8 runs. The Sluggers scored 1 run in the bottom of the 7th and the 9th innings, but it wasn't enough to pull the Sox down. Branden Ham was the winning pitcher for the Sox going 6 2/3 innings; giving up 4 runs, 3 of which were unearned. Nick Reif took the loss for the Sluggers, going 6 1/3 innings; giving up 6 runs, 4 earned.
The Colorado Sox will play in the feature game against the Newton (KS) Rebels at 7:30 on Saturday the 2nd.
The Wichita Sluggers 18U team will play Sunday, August 3rd against the West Texas Outlaws at 8:00 A.M.
